The Welch's purchased the first hundred acres in 1954. Alfred and his wife Jean farmed cattle on the land. Alfred also continued the roofing business of T. Welch and Son Ltd and in time his son Tom joined the business.

On one occasion a friend of Alfred's suggested that his property filled with trees and streams, including the 400 year old Oak still located near the restaurant patio, might be suitable for a golf course. Soon that suggestion became Alfred's dream and he began to carve golf holes through the trees and creeks.

In 1975 Tom and Alfred agreed to close the roofing business and pursue Alfred's golf course dream. In June 1976 they opened a nine hole golf course. Within a few years the course expanded to 13 holes and by the mid eighties the Metcalfe Golf & Country Club became an eighteen hole golf course.

Alfred and Tom played direct roles in the constant improvements which have made the course what it is today.

Unfortunately Alfred passed away February, 14 1996 as a result of injuries in a car accident in Florida. Jean Welch passed away in August of 2001. Tom and his wife Gloria are now the owners and operators of the Metcalfe Golf & Country Club. In 2001 the Metcalfe Golf & Country Club celebrated its 25th Anniversary.

On August 9th 2004 after three years of hard work the Metcalfe Golf and Country Club opened another 9 holes and now offers 27 holes of golf.

From 2006 to 2008 the Metcalfe Golf & Country Club underwent a renovation to the older sections of the 18 hole course including the redesign of 6 holes, 9 new greens and 7 new tee boxes.

The 2011 Season will mark the 35th Anniversary of the Metcalfe Golf & Country Club.
