About Northern Dunes Layout...

Stephen Young, a native of Collingwood, Ontario, who has been involved in course construction and design for more than 20 years, designed our unique course at Northern Dunes Golf Club.

Young previously worked as a shaper for famed Canadian architect Thomas McBroom. While associated with McBroom, he helped lay out The Links of Crowbush Cove which won Golf Digest’s prestigious Best New Canadian Course when the course opened in 1992.Young also has spent countless hours studying the courses of such architects as Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Jack Nicklaus.

Eventually, Young opened his own firm, S. Young Design in Collingwood, which has won numerous environmental awards for its courses. I strongly believe in the attempt to maintain and encourage as much of the areas wildlife and natural characteristics within the golfing environment, he says.

One of the other outstanding courses done by his firm, S. Young Design, is Grey Silo in Waterloo, which has won awards for its scenery and ecological sensitivity. Among his other courses in Ontario are Batteaux Creek near Collingwood and Innisbrook in Barrie.
